materials: corrugated cardboard, paper, graphite, animations

Self Storage, Public Storage, StorageUSA — these humble utilitarian structures – in this case, with a gabled roof – form the basis for this installation. Generally appearing in clusters, gated off from view and trespassers, the storage buildings in this installation are rendered from multiple perspectives, accumulating in large cut-out drawings. These surround stacks of unassembled cardboard sheets, die-cut to fold up into a perspectivally-oriented storage building. Walking through the gallery to the back space, 1000 assembled boxes are piled up in the back room, complete with packing tape and rubber stamp. Simple line animations resembling etch-a-sketch drawings are projected in the central space, suggesting the out-of-control growth of these functional buildings on the landscape.
