ownership society

Five years ago George W. Bush prophesied, "We're creating...an ownership society in this country, where more Americans than ever will be able to open up their door where they live and say, welcome to my house, welcome to my piece of property." Five years later, these drawings explore the moment when the welcome mat comes up, when homes are transferred from dream to bank. Some of these homes are lost and sold even as they are being built. Using images of foreclosure homes from current US goverment sales websites as their source, large-scale architectural drawings and small ink and gouache paintings reflect the relationship between desire and economic security.
